The possession of marijuana for some medical purposes has been legal in Georgia for several years now, but new laws could broaden that legalization. Previously, although the possession of marijuana for certain medical uses was legal under state law, but growing or distributing the marijuana was still illegal.
The new law could change that. It would allow the cultivation and distribution of marijuana for certain medical uses, subject to state regulation.
Of course, none of this changes the legal status of marijuana under federal law.
